Canadian Pacific ES44AC #8939 is a special locomotive, honoring the Lord Strathcona's Horse Royal Canadian Armoured Regiment of the Canadian Forces. It is a one of a kind locomotive and now it will be a one of a kind model.

The Lord Strathcona's Horse Royal Canadian Armoured Regiment of the Canadian Forces is a well known and respected unit based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was one of the last units to be created and raised by a private individual for the service of the crown. Lord Strathcona organized the unit to serve in the Boer War at the beginning of the 20th century. It has gone on to serve bravely and honorably over the years and was the first NATO unit to deploy armour in the Afghanistan.

There is also a more personal connection between Lord Strathcona and Canadian Pacific. For he was one of the financial backers of the construction of the railroad. His role in the project was so important that Lord Strathcona actually drove the last spike to complete the  transcontinental connection in Craigellachie, B.C. on November 7, 1885.

Canadian Pacific and the Lord Strathcona's Horse Royal Canadian Armoured Regiment have been linked together ever since. The relationship has seen both through many changes and today they continue to work together. Canadian Pacific ES44AC #8939 symbolizes this continuing relationship as Canadian Pacific supports the logistical needs of the men who serve in the armed forces and works to ensure their successful transition to civilian life when their service is complete.
