As many of our customers are aware, our standard High Performance Low Friction HO Scale trucks & wheelsets are very fine scale and nearly prototypical in dimensions, with superior performance.

These trucks & wheelsets are made exclusively for North American Railcar Corporation. Many modelers have commented on the exceptional performance of our trucks and wheelsets, and have asked about the possibility of upgrading rolling stock from other manufacturers to provide smoother operations of their trains.

Modelers have experimented with our trucks and wheelsets and report they work well on rolling stock made by most manufacturers. Unfortunately, due to the construction of Intermountain rolling stock, our trucks and wheelsets can not be used.

Due to requests from many modelers, North American Railcar Corporation has decided to offer an HO Scale upgrade kit. Each kit contains the trucks & wheelsets needed to upgrade one HO Scale car.

We will also be producing Wide Tread versions of the standard NARCorp HO Scale wheelsets later this year. The Wheelsets that come with our cars have a tread/flange width of 7 scale inches instead of the nominal 10 to 15 scale  inches. This can cause the flange to catch on certain turnouts with a notched rail at the switch points. This problem is most frequently seen on Atlas Code 100 track. For these customers, these wider tread wheelsets can be used to retrofit their cars and address this issue.

Modelers using any of the following track or turnouts will not need to replace the wheels: 

• Walthers Shinohara
• Peco
• Kato
• Micro Engineering

PLEASE NOTE: These wheels will not work properly on any other manufacturer's trucks. The very high performance, low friction characteristics of North American Railcar Corporation cars are the result of the design features of both the truck and wheelset and neither part can be used with parts from other manufacturers.
