Since releasing our first Saskatchewan grain cars (2007 green scheme), many customers have noticed the unique characteristics of our high performance low friction trucks that allow the cars to have heavier weights and yet run faster and freer. Many customers have asked when we would make them available to the general public. Because we are preparing to manufacture our coal cars, we will manufacture trucks and wheelsets for those who have asked for them at the same time.

These High Performance Low Friction Trucks contain the standard NARCorp HO Scale wheelsets. Due to their design features, they allow less friction and greater rollability of cars. They have a tread/flange width of 7 scale inches instead of the normal 15 scale inches associated with RP-25 wheels and are much more prototypical than most wheelsets.

The high performance and low friction charactistics of North American Railcar Corporation cars are the result of the design features to lessen friction and drag, to allow customers to run heavier-weighted cars and longer trains.  Both parts, trucks and wheelsets, are made of metal; there are no plastic parts, except for insulation of the metal wheels and sideframes.

Our wheels cannot be put into other manufacturer trucks, because of unique design features.  In order for them to work as intended, they must be used in combination with our sideframe. Therefore, in order to enjoy the benefits of the high performance low friction wheels, they have to be used in combination. Most model railroad manufacturers in the industry have a standard bolster height for their trucks. This means you can use our replacement trucks/wheelsets on Atlas, Walthers, Fox Valley, and Athearn, for example.  The only manufacturer you may have issues with is Intermountain as their bolster height is different.
