The EMD SD40-2 locomotive is one of the most versatile and successful locomotives of all time. From 1972 to 1989, nearly 4000 were built for both the North American market and export. Powered by a 16 cylinder 3000 horsepower turbocharged 645 prime mover, these locomotives have a well-deserved reputation for reliability and dependability.

Bowser started from scratch with this model. It is not an altered U.S. EMD SD40-2, but a prototypically accurate Canadian GMD SD40-2 complete with many prototypically correct road specific detail. 11 different body versions with road numbers in twelve schemes are part of the first release.

The second release of this superb model includes a wide variety of schemes and road numbers featuring numerous prototypically correct details for each scheme and road number. All are available in DCC Ready & DCC w/Sound versions. DCC & DCC w/Sound upgrade kits are also available for DCC Ready units.
