This 34” wood-sheathed caboose with Bettendorf trucks was built in 1929 and featured a slanted cupola. The 50 cars built were placed into a random number series of over 600 cars. They were used through the late 1950s. Southern Pacific was a Class 1 railroad from 1865 until 1996, when it was absorbed by Union Pacific after falling on hard times financially in the 1970s and 1980s.
