Forest products have long been the lifeblood of the British Columbia Railway (BC Rail). In the early 1990s, BC Rail set out to revitalize their rolling stock fleet to better serve this essential industry. In need of a high-capacity boxcar to transport these goods to both the  Canadian and US markets, the BCR turned to Trenton Works in Nova Scotia. Based on similar cars delivered to CN around the same time, Trenton delivered the first 150 car order in March and April 1995, numbered 60100-60249. These Plate E cars were painted dark green with the stylized BC Rail lettering. The design featured a combo door setup with a sliding door and plug door for a 16’ opening and a 6637 cubic foot interior space. The length was 60 feet, 9 inches (interior) and 66 feet, 3 inches (exterior). These also featured the distinctive tapered side sill — a design that would disappear with future orders from Trenton in 1996 and ‘97.

The 6637 boxcars would quickly enter service transporting finished lumber products such as oriented strandboard, plywood, lumber and more from BC to destinations all over North America. These could be seen everywhere!

Rapido Trains Inc. release of these well-traveled cars includes the delivery scheme, plus post-2005 versions which featured the FRA-compliant conspicuity striping. As the paint on these cars also faded considerably over time. Rapido Trains Inc. have included three versions to best suit your era!
