● “ASO 1962” is a diesel train which appeared as a successor after the retirement of “Steam Locomotive Train ASO Boy (Current Steam Locomotive Train “Hitoyoshi”) in 2005 which was pulled by Steam Engine 8620 No. 58654 and operated as an eye-catcher for Aso province sightseeing.
The train started operation in July of 2006.
It was named “ASO 1962” for the car “KIHA 58-139” in the train manufactured in 1962.
The train was operated till 2010. During the period, it was operated along with “Steam Locomotive Train Hitoyoshi” (Kato 10-1728, 4-Car set) in Kumamoto area, and also as an extra train in various areas in Kyushu. The model can be run together with Kato 10-952 KIHA 58 JR Kyushu Color 2-Car Set as well.

③ “ASO 1962” is installed on the front display. 2 blank stickers are attached to show destinations.
④ The power unit with flywheel enables stable run. The power bogies wear no traction tires for multiple train combination.
