DD51 1043 is owned by the Shimonoseki General Railway Yard. It is in the original paint scheme, but characterized with LED taillights as well as wireless antennas installed on both ends, as seen on some of the more recent JR West Japan locomotives. This popular locomotive is used in conjunction with steam locomotive “Yamaguchi,” seen operated as a supplementary, substitute locomotive, or used on test runs.
