Western Canada Series is made up of four (4) DVDs, including:

Canadian Pacific's Kicking Horse Pass:  There is no place in Canada more famous than Canadian Pacific's Kicking Horse Pass. This vital link in the transcontinental route was originally a brutal 4.5% grade until the famous Spiral Tunnels lowered the gradient to a more manageable 2%. We take you to this Rocky Mountain paradise in our program and show you the route from Golden, British Columbia to the Bow River Valley in Alberta east of Lake Louise. Included are heavy mixed freight trains and unit coal trains, leased diesel power, and new CP power.

You'll enjoy the stunning scenery throughout the Kicking Horse Canyon from Golden to Field, where engine crews are changed. Then the big climb begins, including two spiral tunnels and the cresting of the summit at the Continental Divide. Watch 3 sections of the same train moving at the Spiral tunnel, and enjoy beautiful snowcapped Rocky Mountain Scenery. Informative narration and area maps.

Cab Ride Over Kicking Horse Pass:   This video is a nice companion to the CP's Kicking Horse Pass video since you see on-board coverage from Field to Lake Louise. Our new SD40-2F wide cab unit, #9020 is the lead diesel on our 3-unit freight eastbound. We watch the train arrive at Field, the crews changed, and off we go inside the cab up the famous Kicking Horse Pass. Most views are straight ahead through the front of the cab as you enjoy the line and pass through both Spiral Tunnels, where you see the rock walls of the inside of the tunnels. There is a bit of drama as one unit dies just as we exit the upper Spiral Tunnel, and we have to make an unscheduled stop. Also we get a brief explanation of the controls by the engineer, and pass a westbound freight in the siding at Divide as we conquer the Summit before going downgrade into Lake Louise Station. The video ends as 9020 leads the train out of Lake Louise.

Canada's Canyon Route: This video features portions of the famous Fraser and Thompson River Canyons in British Columbia. The most natural route through this region to access Vancouver and complete the transcontinental routes was through these natural, and dangerous canyons.

In the Thompson canyon Canadian National is on the north side, and Canadian Pacific is on the south side of the river. Further south in the Fraser River Canyon, the Canadian National crosses over the river and over the CP which also crosses as they change sides of the river. You'll see a wide variety of train traffic on both railroads as we cover the area from Boston Bar to east of Spences Bridge. There is even one scene where we see two trains at the same time on opposite sides of the river. There are unit coal trains with mid-train remote control helpers, and even see some leased power on the CP. The shear cliffs and raging rivers will always make this a formidable foe for both Canadian Railroads. Another fine video from the ever popular Western Canada Series.

CN's Yellowhead Pass:   Canadian National's transcontinental mainline crosses through some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. West of Jasper, Alberta in Jasper National Park is Yellowhead Pass which is the CN crossing of the Rockies. There is a great variety of freight traffic on this busy section which splits west of Mt. Robson (Canada's highest peak) to go southwest toward Vancouver, and due west to Prince George. When this was shot there were still cabooses on the trains to Prince George. The VIA passenger trains are also seen as we see the Sceena from Prince Rupert, and the Canadian on its journey across Canada in the Jasper Area. In addition to all this freight and passenger action we'll see a CN test train, and get a peek inside. This video is a wonderful blend of great scenery and mixture of train variety. It is the CN version of Kicking Horse Pass, without the Spiral Tunnels.
