Also releasing this October, for modelers looking to supplement their fleet of locomotives for pulling the “California Zephyr”, Kato USA will be releasing additional individual E5 locomotives, without the distinctive skirting that would have been present when they were first built, making them appropriate for pulling later era CB&Q trains!

EMD E5A #9909 “Silver Bullet” was built specially for service with the Silver Streak Zephyr and was fitted with Skirts on the trucks and a covered cowl to emphasize the sleek, streamlined look of the locomotive and train.

The individual EMD E5A locomotive releases will have different printing patterns on the nose to reflect the “general use” versions of the CB&Q E5A locomotive, as well as have un-skirted trucks that reflect the locomotive’s later appearance when they would have been used to pull trains such as the California Zephyr

Kato’s release two new paint scheme variations of the popular CB&Q E5A locomotive (the “Illinois Railway Museum appearance” and the “1960’s appearance”), as well as the currently in-stock “Black Band” E5A, will now be available with Pre-Installed DCC! These DCC units are available for preorder as standard Distribution items, rather than be built-to-order direct to Kato.
