The McPherson coach, located at the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum in Prince George B.C., was built in 1942 by Pullman Standard for Southern Pacific Railway's Golden State Limited service and operated on this line until the mid-1950's.
The car was later acquired by the American Freedom Train Foundation in 1974 and formed part of the U.S. Bicentennial Train in 1976. The sleeper car provided quarters for the small number of staff members who actually lived on the train during the tour.
It was purchased by the BC government in 1977 where it took part in a Canada/US rail tour celebrating the Captain Cook Centennial and formed part of a touring BC Museum Train, under the name Adventure, in 1978.
The car lay in disuse until 1988 when it entered BC Rail service and was renamed to honour Norman McPherson a former BC Rail Vice-President of Operations and Maintenance.
BC Rail donated the McPherson to PGRFM along with the Takla coach, where it arrived on Canada day (July 1) 2003 in front of the Penny Station.
You can still view the McPherson Coach at the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum in Prince George.
