These cars are one of the most recognizable prototypes traveling the rails today. Named after their simple, spine like appearance, these cars carry either trailers to intermodal containers. While the cars can only carry a single container from 40 to 53 ft, or 20 containers on chassis, the ability to use them for either containers or trailers makes them a very flexible solution for the railroads and TTX. Built in late 1990’s by Trinity Rail for TTX, these cars run in 3 unit RAF33 & 5 unit RAF53C versions.
