Hoppers have been around since the early days of railroading. Originally used to carry coal, they have gone on to carry many types of products. As new products became cargo for hoppers, new larger and different types of hoppers were introduced and continue to be even now. These hoppers were introduced in the 1960's and remained in service into the mid 2000's. They carried coal all across the United States.
