Burlington Northern was born from the 1970 merger of Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Burlington Route (which GN and NP jointly controlled) and Spokane Portland & Seattle (also jointly controlled by GN and NP.) The 1980 acquisition of Frisco gave the expanded BN an astonishing reach, from Vancouver, British Columbia in one corner of the system and Pensacola, Florida in the opposite corner! BN inherited this group of hoppers from Great Northern in the merger. This run consists of six new road numbers in this popular road name.
