The PRR F30a 50 foot flat car was built in house by the Pennsylvania Railroad in the mid 1930's. It featured a cast all steel frame with wood deck that proved to be very durable. 1500 of these cars were built and were used in general service by a number of other railroads in addition to the PRR. These cars remained in service for decades and some outlasted the PRR itself, continuing on in service with Conrail.
