Entering service in 1963, the F89F flatcar has been a fixture of railroading ever since. Bethlehem Steel Company built more than 9000 of these cars in their Johnstown, PA plant. One of several types of 89 ft flatcars built in the 1960's, the "C" channel sill sides set it apart visually.

These cars were highly adaptable to the needs of railroads and Trailer Train, now TTX. Trailer Train used them in the growing Trailer On Flat Car (TOFC) business, while many railroads purchased them to use as the basis of autoracks. Many of these cars have seen multiple configurations for different uses over their service lives.

Various versions of this car have been in service from the 1960's on and one version or another will look right at home on any layout in this time frame. Used for trailers, containers, autoracks and special loads like pipe loads, wind turbine parts, and even aircraft fuselage transport, these cars just keep working.
