Wal Greenville 7,000 Cubic Foot Wood Chip Hopper - Assembled -- Union Pacific (SKU 932-5684)

Although wood chips are one of the lightest loads carried by rail, they require one of the biggest cars! Third in size behind modern auto racks and high-cube box cars, these giant hoppers were introduced by Greenville Steel Car in the early 1970s. Standing just over 16' tall, these monsters dwarfed every other car on the rails except auto racks and high-cube box cars. Those big side walls required a lot of bracing for support, and each panel was embossed for added strength. Still going strong today, they're especially common on southern lines where wood chips are now preferred over pulpwood as the primary raw material for making paper.

Faithful reproductions of cars in service with several roads, these assembled models come with a heavy diecast underframe, prototypical interior bracing and door latch details.
