Peoria & Eastern ran from Peoria to Indianapolis. It was controlled by Big Four which in turn was part of the New York Central System which became Penn Central in 1968. Unlike Big Four which became a “paper railroad” during the steam era, Peoria & Eastern maintained a semblance of its own identity right until the Conrail consolidation in 1976.
