Louisville & Nashville acquired this group of transfer cabooses in the break up of Chicago & Eastern Illinois in 1967. L&N got the C&EI’s line from Evansville north to Danville and joint ownership (with Missouri Pacific) of the remainder of the route to Chicago. MoPac got the western legs of the C&EI system. Locomotives and rolling stock were split between the two.
