This 36' riveted steel caboose with offset cupola was built by the Wabash in Decatur, Illinois in the early 1940s. It is painted red with white lettering. Unlike many of the C16 class cabooses of that era, number N&W 562748 was a survivor and became part of the Norfolk & Western fleet with the merger of Wabash into N&W. The original N&W ran from Norfolk, Virginia to Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. In 1964 it merged with the Nickel Plate and the Wabash. Today, N&W is part of the Norfolk Southern system.
