Cornerstone Series Built-ups let you add highly detailed, fully assembled structures to your layout in minutes. Based on structures commonly found all across the continent, these models combine fine detailing, realistic decoration and ease of use into buildings you can add all along your lines to give them a real railroad feeling. Since the 1880s, some of the most important firehouses in any city have been those that protect the central business district and industrial areas. With space at a premium, taller buildings were always common and the hook and ladder truck a necessity. Here too you'd find the high-volume pumpers, Heavy Rescue Squads, Salvage rigs, Hose Wagons and other top-of-the-line equipment as well as a Battalion Chief or a Paramedic unit in modern times. Stations built to house these large rigs had to be longer than those in other parts of town. While designs varied, most shared common elements; large apparatus doors on the front for easy street access, second story living quarters and a tower where the hoses were dried. With their brick construction, firehouses projected an aura of strength. Many of these older buildings still serve today, typically housing an engine company or ambulance. Others have been preserved as museums, or remodeled into offices, shops and private homes. The first assembled model of its type this all-new model is based on a typical early 1900s design that fits most layouts. Because these buildings were found in industrial settings, the model is right at home nestled in among factories, railroad buildings or commercial scenes. Ideal as a display model, it's deep enough to handle most ladder truck models as well as pumpers. Opening wood doors for pre 1970s-era scenes are standard, but optional roll-up doors for modern scenes are included that are easily added with minor modifications to the structure. Realistic decals are also included so you can customize the building to fit your layout.
