This 60' excess height box car, with double plug doors and waffle sides rolled off the assembly line of Pullman Standard's Bessemer, Alabama plant in January 1975. It is painted box car red. The lettering, Southern logo, and slogan are white. The 'O' in Southern has an emerald green fill. The 'waffle' side panels accommodate an internal belt rail system for speedy, damage free handling. This is the result of freight equipment innovations in the 1960s and '70s. With its excess height design, large commodities, such as refrigerators, could be stacked in this car.
