Streamlined passenger cars were introduced in the 1930's to both modernize rolling stock and bring glamour to passenger trains. With a bright and futurisitc appearence, these cars accomplished their goal. From the 1930's to the 1950's, these cars were used on some of the most famous and most beloved passenger trains of the day. Many of the cars fail on hard times in the 1960's and 1970's, just like passenger rail. However with the arrival of Amtrak and the growing number of excusion train and private owners, many of these cars regained some of their former glory. Today, many streamlined cars remain in use in either excusion of private operation with Amtrak still having a few in service.
