Built by Greenville Steel Car Co. in September 1963, this 60’ double plug door boxcar has riveted sides with a short, 41’-3” wheelbase. Developed in response to the rapidly changing needs of the automotive industry in the 1960s, the Ford Motor Company urged manufacturers to develop a railroad car fleet to accomodate these changes. For the first time, competing railroads and car builders cooperated to expedite development to meet the demand. The 60’ double plug door boxcar was designed for transporting high-density components.
