Available On: December 1, 2014

The LRC demonstrator locomotive could be seen in tests across Canada and the United States in the 1970s. In September 1975 it achieved the Canadian speed record of 129 MPH (Jason/Rapido adds: which was blasted to bits by the Turbo a mere seven months later! So there!). However, the demonstrator proved the viability of the LRC concept and paved the way for the future of intercity operations
The 31 prototype LRC locomotives were built by Bombardier between 1981 and 1984. Powered by a 16 cylinder Alco 251F producing 3700 HP, these locomotives were designed for high speed operation on existing track. They lasted in service on VIA until 2001. Two locomotives and ten coaches were also leased to Amtrak and operated in service between New York and Boston.
The HO scale model was scaled dierectly from the prototype and includes all of the details that you would expect from Rapido. All units feature the same smooth running drive components as their acclaimed FP9 locomotoves. Sound-equipped models will include custom decoders utilizing sounds recorded from unit 6521 at Exporail in Montreal, Canada.
