These 33’ twin bay open hoppers are painted light box car red. In 1931, the Standard Steel Car Co. built 500 all-steel hopper carsfor the Great Northern. These two hopper paint schemes are within the same road series and were seen in service together. Repairs and re-painting at different times over the years account for variations. The GN used hoppers in revenue loading of coal, manganese and zinc concentrates, iron ore, bauxite, sand gravel, crushed rock and sugar beets.
