Pullman Smoothside 4-4-2 Sleeper (ALUMINUM)

Thirty-one 4-Bedroom, 4-Compartment, 2-Drawing Room sleepers were ordered by the Pullman Company in 1941. 18 of these cars were assigned to the Overland Route (C&NW-UP-SP) as part of lot 6668. After their construction in March and April of 1942, two went to the Southern Pacific, four to the Chicago & North Western, and twelve to the Union Pacific in two-tone gray. They rode on 41-HR trucks with clasp brakes originally. Later all UP cars were repainted in the road’s Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray.

Pullman Standard made hundreds of these smooth side 4-4-2 sleepers that were on virtually every railroad.
