Micro-Trains - Z Scale - 50' Box Car - Double Door - Great Northern (GN) # 35559 - red with white lettering - (June 2011) (SKU 489-50600261)

These 50' box cars with double sliding doors are painted Vermillion Red with large white “Great Northern” and lettering in white. They were built in August 1957 and roll through the Northwestern District on roller bearing trucks. These double-door cars are two of thousands built by the Great Northern during the ‘50s to meet the growing demand for the larger doors, permitting the use of forklifts and larger loading devices. It wears the original 1957 lettering with large slant serif 'GREAT NORTHERN' lettering filling the side to the right of the doors, and a 'forward facing Rocky' herald to the left. Many of this series were serviced and repainted into the GN Empire Builder paint scheme in the mid-1960s.
