Jasper National Park was founded in 1907, and the town of Jasper arose shortly after, during construction by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway in the Athabaska valley. When the original station burned in 1924, this fine building was erected to serve the newly designated Canadian National Railways divisional point. The early 1950's scene depicts the late afternoon arrival of train #2, the second section of the 'Continental', originating at Vancouver. The Raven totem pole was carved by Haida chief Simeon Stiltae, and transported from the Queen Charlotte Islands in 1919.
