Originally built by Farm Machinery Corporation (FMC), almost 7,000 of these cars were operated by six railroads and numerous private companies. Built from the early 70s through the early 80s, most of these cars are still in service today. The original 6 railroad owner's names have expanded to cover many railroad names due to mergers and the constant changes of lessees and private owners

Features unique to this car include the 16 vertical posts on the car side and the horizontal weld seam running just above center along the length of the car.
