Bluford Shops - N Scale - Offset Side 70 Ton 3-Bay Hopper - Totonto Hamilton & Buffalo (TH&B) - 3 Pack - (SKU 188-73303)

Available On: February 1, 2011

Thanks to Mike and Lance, both knowlegable Canucks for their help with our TH&B artwork. Since more than half the fleet was assigned at one point to the Dane iron ore pool (along with a number of CA-SO, CN, NYC, P&LE and ONT hoppers) we have added the Dane “big white dot.” After that service ended, these hoppers moved on to other service but kept their white dots. We also added CP style diamond reflectors and greatly improved the TH&B bow tie logo. Lastly, we are replacing the coal load with an iron ore load (we suggest trimming off the risers on the bottom of the loads so they’ll sit lower in the car.) After their days of hauling iron ore, these cars could be found moving coke, scrap tinplate, anode slime, stone, crushed slag and zinc concentrate.

Offset side 70 ton 3-bay hoppers first appeared in the late 1920s but by the late 30s they had evolved into the AAR standard design seen here. They were built in large quantities by many builders until the mid-1960s. Many remained in service into the 1990s.

The 110 mile Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo operated between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie west of Buffalo and south of Toronto. For most of its history, ownership was split between New York Central (later PC) and Canadian Pacific. After the collapse of Penn Central, CP took sole ownership then finally merged the TH&B in the mid-80s. TH&B served the heavily industrialized region around Hamilton, Ontario and sported fairly heavy traffic levels. This roadname will be available in 6 road numbers
