The Plywood Panel Boxcar was a very unique piece of rolling stock. It was developed at the end of World War II to address the shortage of steel and was designed to be both as strong and as durable as an all steel boxcar. While the design worked well, steel shortages gradually ended as did the need for these cars. They remain a unique design in boxcars, even in their time period.
