The Southern Pacific narrow gauge is the informal name given to a network of narrow gauge railroad lines operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) in western Nevada and eastern California. The SP narrow gauge system operated on the tracks of the former Carson and Colorado Railroad, purchased in 1900 by the Southern Pacific, which continued to operate it as the Carson and Colorado. The name of the railroad was changed to Nevada and California Railway on May 11, 1905 and in 1912 the name was again changed to Southern Pacific.
