The Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Company unveiled this Strides Against Cancer car in December in memory of Lucy Stone Gardner, late wife of WSOR owner Bill Gardner. It's been three years since Lucy lost her fight against cancer, and Bill wanted to commemorate her valiant effort and raise awareness with this striking box car.

The 50 ft. double plug door insulated box car will carry canned goods throughout the country. No expense was spared in making this prototype car special. It was completely sandblasted and an epoxy primer was applied before the durable urethane color coat. The roof was also treated with a urethane silver coat to help prevent rust from bleeding down the sides.

Athearn is proud to partner with Bill Gardner and the Wisconsin Southern to bring this unique and important car to HO railroads. For every car sold, Athearn will donate to the breast cancer fund of the American Cancer Society.
