This very unique decoder has some pretty exciting new features! The Turbine had two types of engines, a diesel and the turbine. It was designed for both the Standard and Veranda Turbines. These Turbines were powerful enough to pull hundreds of loaded freight cars! Producing this decoder has lead to some interesting creative effort since the Turbines themselves are no longer operating.

 

Starting with original recordings and with the help of several former UP engineers, we were able to reproduce the Turbine for use in the new decoder. Additionally, the software has been specially modified to give the user the optimal operating experience. Since the Turbine had two engines it has some very unusual running characteristics and sound effects! Specifically, Function Key #9 will initiate the transition from Hostler Mode to Full Turbine Mode and Function Key # 10 will return from Turbine Mode to Hostler Mode.
