During the late 1950's and early 1960's, the Espee (SP) converted a number of their heavyweight passenger cars for Maintenance of Way services, since the reduction in passenger train service in conjunction with the newer lightweight equipment made these cars obsolete. MW 4760 is one such car that was downgraded yet was still in a good state of repair. It belonged to SP Common Standard 214, class 60-B car. The actual car number when it was in revenue service is not known.
