This 40' double-sheathed wood reefer with vertical brake wheel is painted hopper red with box car red roof, black sill and white stripe under eaves. It has a white logo and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Actually owned by General American Transportation Company since 1931 and leased to Swift, these cars originally built in 1939 carried many different paint schemes during their lives. This red paint scheme was introduced in the 1950s and commonly seen on the rails into the 1960s when Swift began repainting the cars with yet another new paint scheme.
