Some quick notes:
Great Northern Railway originally purchased steel underframe, wood sheathing baggage and express cars from Barney & Smith in 1909. They were rebuilt with steel sheathing and stronger underframe at the Jackson Street Shops at St. Paul from 1922 to 1926. Remodeling in this manner made them suitable for use in all steel Pullman consist trains.

Some of these cars lasted in BN maintenance way service which attest to the durablilty of GN’s rebuilding program - that is some 46 years later!

These cars ran in GN trains such as the Fast Mail Nos. 27 and 28, International Limited, the Badger Express, the Winnipeg Limited, and the Cascadian. They carried the all important express, sealed mail and baggage business.
