Southern had a large fleet of 86’ auto parts boxcars over the years with a wide variety of paint scheme variations. Beginning in 1969, Southern began using the “GIVES A GREEN LIGHT TO INNOVATIONS” motto. Ordinarily, cars equipped with cushion under frames such as these, had “SUPER CUSHION SERVICE”spelled out to the right of the door. However, this batch from Pullman Standard had “SOUTHERN SERVES THE SOUTH” instead. Go figure...!
