Netherlands-based Nedlloyd containers became a more common sight in North America after their combination with P&O in 1996 to form P&O Nedlloyd. The A.P. Moller-Maersk Group took over all activities of P&O Nedlloyd in 2005. At the time of the acquisition, P&O Nedlloyd had 13,000 employees in 146 countries and operated 156 container vessels with regular calls at 219 ports in 99 countries.
