Kansas City Southern Class J 2-10-4

Texas-type

In the depths of the depression, the KCS came to a realization that their stable of 2-8-0s and 2-8-8-0s could not compete in the "fast freight" business coming to fruition in the 1930s. An order was placed with Lima Locomotive Works, home of "Super Power", i.e. high-speed high-horsepower modern steam. This order resulted in the 1937 delivery of ten 2-10-4s, half oil-burners, half coal-burning. These were assigned class J, and numbered 900-909.

While limited by the relatively slow track structure of the KCS, these locomotives performed heroically until scrapped in 1952-1953. The Division Point and Boo-Rim will offer this LIMITED EDITION project all numbers of the class. With only 100 pieces to be produced, you are advised to contact your dealer to reserve yours!

Dr. Nick Muff is assisting us with our KCS projects, and has come up with some interesting suggestions. We are adding sea-green boiler and trainphone-equipped versions.
