First introduced in 1980, the EF64-1000 class of locomotives was built to replace the aging EF15
and EF58 locomotives. These locomotives lasted through continued service, and beginning in 2004, JR Freight began refurbishing and repainting its EF64-1000 Series freight locomotives into a new paint scheme to reflect its new colors; a two-tone blue and white body-stripe livery with a large “JRF” logo down the side.
