This three-bay Ortner rapid discharge hopper is painted black with yellow logo and lettering. It was built in August 1966 by Ortner Freight Car Company in Cincinnati, OH. It runs on Barber® Roller Bearing trucks.
The Ortner Freight Car Company of Cincinnati, Ohio (now Trinity Industries) built two-bay, three-bay and four-bay versions of the Rapid Discharge hopper. The ‘Rapid Discharge’ design self-clears through the rails within 30 seconds and is perfect for carrying heavy aggregate. Most of the three-bays were owned by, and in captive service of, construction & utility companies. The fleets were used for the transport of heavy material like stone aggregate, iron ore or limestone.
