This 50' steel-side, 14-panel fixed end gondola with low cover was originally built in April of 1953. It was rebuilt and renumbered in November 1957, at Omaha along with nine other gondolas for steel plate loading. It is faster and less expensive to load a car of this type with a crane as opposed to loading a box car with a similar load. This series is described as equipped with adjustable bulkheads and removable roofs for coil tin plate loading and were not suitable for general use.
