Kansas City Power & Light operates 4 coal-fired plants to supply electric power to Kansas and Missouri around Kansas City. Of these, the La Cygne Generating station, located on the Kansas City Southern south of Kansas City, is the largest with two units producing at total of 1,362 megawatts of power. La Cygne is jointly owned with Kansas Gas & Electric and burned 6.05 million tons of Powder River Coal in 2004. To supply the coal, there are 495 KCLX Bethgons carrying La Cygne markings.
