The SD70ACe & SD70M-2 locomotives were introduced by Electro-Motive Diesel in 2004 & 2005 to both compete with GE and meet the Environmental Protection Agency's Tier-2 emissions requirements that took effect on January 1, 2005. Both locomotives are updated and improved versions of earlier SD70 series locomotives.

Each locomotive features a third generation EMD 710 diesel prime mover, rated at 4300 horsepower. EMD had to make relatively few modifications to meet the new emission standards. As such, the motor enjoys the same reputation for durability as the thousands of other 710's in use around the world.

While the SD70ACe and SD70M-2 look similar to previous models, they both feature many improvements. They take full advantage of the latest in computer control and ergonomics for improved crew comfort and better performance.

This new Walthers Mainline model of this common locomotive offers an economical way to add modern motive power to your layout.

This release includes an undecorated version along with six schemes. Each scheme has two Standard DC road numbers and two DCC w/Sound road numbers.
