Containers are the work horse of the domestic and international long haul cargo business. Operated by any number of owners, containers carry virtually every product imaginable. Ranging in size from 20 feet to 53 feet, they can meet any shipping need.

They can be packed at a factory, taken by truck to a train yard, then to a ship yard and then across ocean. Once they arrive in port, they are often taken by train to a distribution hub, where they then go out by truck to their final destination.

While on trains and ships, they can be stacked, to go over the road, they need a chassis to carry them. These chassis allow Athearn containers to be hauled by truck over your layout, parked in an intermodal yard, or carried on flat cars and spine cars.
