Originally, the P42's delivered to VIA were a dark teal colour, Pantone 316. Unfortunately, this paint neither held up well to regular use, nor maintained the same colour. As a result, many P42's looked much worse for the wear and colours varried, sometimes dramatically from one unit to another. As part of VIA Rail's solution to this problem, P42's are being painted with a blue replacing the orginal Pantone 316. VIA P42 908 is one that has been repainted and now wears this scheme.
