Gondolas have been part of railroading since the early days. Over the years they have grown both in size and types of cars used with many different types of gondolas in use currently. These 40 ft 50 Ton Drop Bottom Gondolas were built in the 1920's and carried a variety of goods including coal, gravel and sand. These cars went on to serve long careers with some cars remaining in service into the 1960's.
