American Limited Models is entering the HO Scale freight car business with what is sure to be a winner.
A personal note to all of our HO Scale Customers: one of the two American Limited Models principals is John Engstrom, who used to guide Athearn. If any of you are concerned, "Who is this new company". Expect a quality product from them. Take it from us, these will be great cars, equal in quality to the cars we at NARC build. This should be a great model. And there are lots of these cars running around Canada and the US delivering sand for fracking, and there use will continue to rise as more and more shale oil formations are resurrected and brouht back into production.
Introduced in the late 1990s, TrinityRail’s 3281 cubic foot capacity, 2-bay covered hopper is ideal for handling high-density products such as sand, roofing granules, and cement. Measuring 41’-11” long, these cars are equipped with three or five round loading hatches and a pair of gravity outlets to facilitate off-loading those commodities.
Based on similar, larger covered hoppers in the TrinityRail catalog, these cars are distinctive in comparison to older 2-bay covered hopper designs thanks to their overhanging, arched roof profile, heavy top reinforcement chord, and folded jack pads at the bolsters. This design has proven to be popular with shippers and railroads alike, and can be seen traveling singly in manifest trains, in large groups, and even in “unit trains” hauling a single commodity. These are the types of cars often seen in association with oil and natural gas fracking operations, carrying large amounts of fracking sand.
This brand new HO Scale 3281 cf 2-Bay Covered Hopper features all new state-of-the-art tooling from one of the premier HO scale tool houses. Body tooling is all new, based on prototype drawings and measurements.
The first release of this car includes multiple road numbers in six schemes seen across much of North America
